See every stage from the box before you hang a plate.
Enter your club’s steel once. From The Box builds legal RCSA stages for pistol and rifle, shows the shooter’s sight picture with the angle to every target, and prints stage sheets your crew can set from.
From the steel shed to stage sheets in four steps
Set up your club once
Lane width and distances, your post types and their real heights, and every plate you own: circles, squares, rects, diamonds and stops. Mark which posts can carry a stop plate.
Generate the match
Pick pistol, rifle or both, and a 1–5 star difficulty for each stage. You get five to seven plates per stage with one stop plate, laid out inside your lane using only steel you have.
Check the view from the box
Every target shows its horizontal and vertical angle from the shooter. Plates that sit too close together, or hide behind a nearer post, get flagged before anyone drives a stake. Drag any plate on the map to fix it.
Print and set
One 8.5×11 sheet per stage with the diagram, distances, plate and post legend and round count, plus a 2×2 overview of the whole match for the setup crew.
Hand your crew a sheet, not a sketch
Distances to the yard, spacing between plates in feet and inches, which post each plate goes on, and which one is the stop. Setup goes faster and matches look the same as the plan.
- Diagram with centerline, distances and plate spacing
- Sight angles for every target
- Plate and post legend with your post heights
- Targets, strings and round count

From The Box started as the tool I wanted for our own matches at Douglas Ridge. It’s free to use. If it saves your crew a Saturday morning, a donation helps keep it going.
Get word when new features land
More stand types and match-day tools are on the way. One email when something ships, nothing else.
Does it work for Steel Challenge?
No. From The Box builds Rimfire Challenge stages. Steel Challenge stages are fixed layouts, so there is nothing to generate.
Can I change a generated stage?
Yes. Drag any plate, stop plate included, anywhere inside your lane, or tap it and fine-tune in 6-inch and 1-yard steps. The app warns you if a plate gets hidden from the box, and Reset puts the stage back. You can also regenerate any stage until you like it.
What do I need to run it?
A laptop or tablet with a current browser, and a printer for the stage sheets.
